Southern Thailand

Southern Thailand

About 90% of Thais have a Buddhist background. Southern Thailand is close to the Malaysian border and 82% of the population are Muslim and some radicalised Muslim groups contest the federal Thai government as they demand independence. As part of their quest some have resorted to killings or bombings. Factories and big companies don’t invest in the area, adding to a sense of hopelessness and abandonment. Due to the danger of attacks many NGOs refrain from working in the area.

Due to the possible threat of attacks we operate as a development organisation rather than an organisation which identifies as Christian publicly.
